My Journey Continues

I stumbled upon Bazi,  (a path of Chinese Metaphysics) in 2017 and began my learning journey then. Since then, I have never looked back. A lot of people asked me if it was fortune telling and I told them no.

Then they continued to ask me to read their charts and tell their fortune. Again, I told them that I do not fortune tell and said no.

I started explaining to them what Bazi is and they still pestered me to tell their fortunes.

If you thought Bazi is about fortune telling, then you are gravely wrong and really need to change your perspective.  If you suspected that those people who asked me about fortune telling were Chinese or Asians, you would be surprised. One of them was a non-Asian.

The Chinese have long been perceived to be particular about fortune, wealth or striking it rich. This can’t be blamed as the majority of them have been poor for a long time. If you are familiar with stories of the Chinese leaving their homes and going to work in overseas mines or take up overseas jobs in the early days, then you are familiar with the poverty of the Chinese then.

Before I give my perspective of what Bazi is, let me share with you the 8 questions commonly asked by people who are curious about Bazi.

The 8 questions are:

1.       Is Bazi about fortune-telling?

2.       Is Bazi  something religious?

3.       If I ask about my Bazi, will bad things happen to me?

4.       Can you tell me when I can strike the lottery or become super rich using my Bazi?

5.       Can I replace a missing element?

6.       Can I balance my Bazi?

7.       Can I strengthen my weak elements in my Bazi?

8.       Can I change my Bazi?

I have only 1 answer to the 8 questions above. The answer is NO.

BAZI

So what is Bazi, you may wonder?

To make it  simple for you to understand what Bazi is, it is just a pair of spectacles. You have a blurred vision and you wear the spectacles to see better. Understanding your own natal chart is putting on the spectacles and see better.

When your spectacles are on, you get a better vision. Looking at your Bazi and understanding what you are made of, allows you to understand yourself better.

Bazi Make-Up

Then why are there 8 characters in your Bazi chart? Your Bazi chart consists of your birth date that shows the year in which you were born, the month, the day and the time. These four components make up the 4 pillars. In each pillar there is a Heavenly stem and Earthly branch. The Heavenly stem is made up of any 4 of the 5 elements with Yin or Yang polarity. The 5 elements are Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water (in order). There is Yin and Yang polarity for the 5 elements and thus totalling to 10.

Getting It Right

1.      1. Is reading my  Bazi about fortune-telling?

How can your birth chart just about fortune telling? It is more than fortune telling. It can tell you about the optics of what happened in the past and what will happen in the future.

2.     2.  Is Bazi something religious?

To me, religion is man made. Your birth was a miracle even though it was man made. How can knowing more about yourself and the qi you were born with be religious?

3.    3.   If I ask about my Bazi, will bad things happen to me?

Bad things will only happen to you if you think about it. If you ask about your Bazi and seek understanding of it, I believe only good things will happen to you. This is because you have clarity of your own birth given qi and achieve more things.

4.     4.  Can you tell me when I can strike the lottery or become super rich using my Bazi?

If knowing your Bazi can strike it rich for yourself, all the Chinese in the world would have become tycoons many times over. Got the point?

5.      5. Can I replace a missing element or missing elements?

Why do you think it is labelled missing element in the first place?

6.      6.  Can I balance my Bazi in my natal chart?

Why do you want to balance your Bazi chart? An unbalanced chart is more exciting. A balanced chart is boring and takes a lot out of you. At the end, you will appreciate your unbalanced chart more.

7.      7.  Can I strengthen my weak element or elements in my Bazi chart ?

The reason why a weak element is labelled weak. Weak or strong is subjective, do you not think so? Work on the strong elements to strengthen yourself more.  As for a weak element, just leave it alone.

8.       8. Can I change my Bazi?

If you can choose your parents or go back in time, then you can change your Bazi. If not, please make the best out of your Bazi and live life to the fullest.

Good, Better, Best

Learners of Bazi like myself have it good when learning this age old wisdom of Chinese metaphysics. Why so? It is because in those days, only the privileged few were chosen to learn. Moreover when it came to learning, the students in ancient China had to take a long time to plot a person’s Bazi chart which was only possible after he had memorized and learnt all the verbal formulae from the master. It was unheard of females learning Chinese metaphysics at that time.

Furthermore, the old masters did not teach his disciples everything as he kept the sacred to himself. It was only at death bed that he conveyed the sacred part to his successor who would continue his line or school.

The ancient text would have not been possible for anyone to read if the student was not schooled to read and write. You can imagine that the learning of Chinese metaphysics was limited to a privileged few.

I am glad that I was not born in ancient China. With the modern gadgetry in our digital age, things are getting better. I wonder if the ancient masters would have envisioned the current stage of Chinese metaphysics with its rapid rise.
