The Lion Dog Dance

 (5 min read)

The qi is right today for business to start in the lunar new year. Today is the fourth day of the lunar new year of the Ox. Business owners are particular in the time and date to commence work or business. Most would have sought their Fengshui masters and consulted using their birth charts before business commencement. In the old days, anyone whose birth chart did not seem right could also be forbidden to front this commencement activity.

Moreover, the business owners who could afford to splurge would engage the lion dance or wushu companies to perform the lion dance.  This ritual of the lion dance dates back to ancient China as it was believed that the lion was the "nian" that terrorised villages and towns. The lion dance resembled the "nian" in frightening people and destroying crops and livestock.

It seems apt to have the lion dance henceforth to chase away negative qi (aka energy) or evil spirits. With the Covid pandemic restricting movement of people and social distancing, the annual lion dances are also kept away.

Despite all odds and  thanks to the creativity of a few ladies whom I know, an ingenious but small scale lion dog dance was conducted  to mark business commencement.

I wish them prosperity and all things smooth in their business for many years to come.  A lion dog dance suffices...Hurray!

OXOX!
