Trigram Switch
I would like to write about the Yi Jing Trigrams today by looking at them from Fu Xi's time (Earlier Heaven) and the time of Zhou Wen Wang (Later Heaven)
From Zhou Wen Wang's time, he decided to change the position of the Qian gua and Kun gua when he wrote the Yi Jing. He wanted to build his own kingdom for himself and his people. Thus, he changed Fu Xi''s bagua for political reasons.
| Earlier Heaven | Fu Xi | Later Heaven | Zhou Wen Wang | Political reasons for His Change as Zhou’s kingdom was situated in Western China | Yang/Yin |
1 | Qian | South | Qian | Northwest | Will find friends if people move to the areas in the west | Yang |
2 | Kun | North | Kun | Southwest | Will find friends if people move to the areas in the west | Yin |
3 | Xun | Southwest | Xun | Southeast | Will encounter obstacles if people move to areas in the east. | Yin |
4 | Kan | West | Kan | North | Cold area of China | Yin |
5 | Gen | Northwest | Gen | Northeast | Will encounter obstacles if people move to areas in the east. | Yang |
6 | Zhen | Northeast | Zhen | East | Will encounter obstacles if people move to the east. | Yang |
7 | Li | East | Li | South | Warm area of China | Yin |
8 | Dui | Southeast | Dui | West | Happy if people move to the west | Yin |
You can look at the table and see how the directions have changed since the times of Later Heaven. Yi Jing is so amazing and this ancient language still speaks volume today.
Be kinder to yourself and to others.
Namaste!
